New Painting: Fractured Heart

Latest painting, Fractured Heart, 36″ square or 91.44 cm square.  o/c, I have two more canvases of the same size. Took picture under natural light. It’ll be a mini series. I made a point of not using colors straight out of tube. I like this a lot.Heart Series Fractured Heart

So So Painting

Entropy beforeEntropy rework

This is what I’ve been working on for the last 2 weeks, pic on left. There was something not right with it, I felt. I spent another week looking at it and finally figured it out. I asked myself: was it the colors? too saturated, not enough tints, tones or shades? the size of the shapes, too uniform? too many curved lines\shapes verses straight lines\shapes. On and on. I originally divided the canvas into 3 areas, the middle area being the largest. After looking at the studies I had done, I decided it was the middle area that bothered me. It needed more variety of shapes, the sizes were too uniformed except for the orange shape on the lower left which I saved. It needed more floating shapes at the top.  It is on a 40″ x 30″or 101.6 cm x 76.2cm canvas and that was a factor as well. The paper studies I did were narrower. I painted over the middle part with white except for the part on the lower left. It’ll sit now to dry somewhat and then I can paint over it.  I have 3, 36″ square canvases I can start work on in the mean time. I’m also working on my book, adding and taking out more content.

Update:  So So painting is still so so. I repainted it. Its okay. Moving on to other work.
