Bird Abstractions

The one on top is “One Large Bird” and the one on the bottom is titled “Two Small Birds”. Pastel on paper 11″ x 19″ or  28 cm x 48.26cm . Spoiler alert: I think of triangles in these works as bird abstractions. It goes back to the first Elements of Form pictures I did in undergraduate school. I’ve also taken up with watching the birds in my backyard.  I don’t start off thinking of abstracting the bird shape . It happens after I’ve finished the work. This also is in keeping with the overarching idea of the formation of an image whether it is gestural strokes such as the angel pics or shape on top of shape to form an approximation of an organic entity i.e. birds. For me, it is all the same. When do those shapes become something else, those brushstrokes something recognizable representing the ordinary world where the spiritual and physical meet?

Morning Star

morning Star Compressed

Lucifer which means ‘bringer of light’ was associated with the morning star or Venus. It is one of the few stars seen in the morning as the sun rises. Hence, Bringer of Light. He was god’s favorite in christian religion until he rebelled. I like the Muslim version better https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Devil#Islam . God wanted him to worship humans but he refused saying that he could only worship god. 18″ x 24″ or 45.72 cm x 61cm

2 angels

On left is Archangel 6, 24″ x 18″ or 61cm x 45.72 cm on right is Studio Spirit 12″ square or 30.5 cm. Most of the original angels were larger paintings but these I made smaller. they work up quicker and I think are just as potent as the bigger ones. these are for sale at https://jschindler.artspan.com/home

Still working on my book. I’m having trouble finding beta readers. My family doesn’t want to read it for fear if they don’t like it they’ll hurt my feelings. Kinda lame but what can you do? I do have one friend who read it and liked it and was able to give me several good suggestions. So it goes.
