This was inspired by the video of an elderly woman berating a Russian soldier. She wanted to give him some sunflower seeds so that they would grow out of his dead body. This reminds me of some earlier work of Anselm Keiffer’s. The Orders of the Night is one of several sunflower works of his.
My next painting is Ukraine Rising. Detail on right. Still have 1 or 2 layers . I painted about 3 hours this morning but had to stop as the garage started getting hot. Size is 3ft square or 91.44cm. I’m ok with the center part of flower but the petals and sky still need work. Seeing it photographed helps me see those parts; the petals are especially wonky.
